UFO sighting near Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, UK, January 19, 2010
The UFO was sighted near the village on Sunday evening and was travelling in the direction of Melbourn.Elizabeth Phillips, of the Causeway, Bassingbourn, said: "My partner rang me after he had been out to collect my son from Melbourn.
"He said he had seen a strange ball of light in the sky, and when I went outside I could see it as well."It was travelling quite fast and was far too big to be a Chinese lantern or anything like that".
RAF Bassingbourn is a former military airbase located in Cambridgeshire approximately 3 miles (5 km) north of Royston, Hertfordshire and 11 miles (18 km) south west of Cambridge. During World War II it served first as an RAF station and then as a bomber base of the U.S. Eighth Air Force. Now known as Bassingbourn Barracks, it functions as a Phase One recruit training base and is home to Army Training Regiment Bassingbourn.

I too saw a fire ball in the sky last night 19th Jan 2010 I live in Cheadle, Stockport under the flight path of Manchester Airport so I am used to seeing planes. The event began with me turning the TV down as a noisey plane sounded like it was circling which they never do. I could see what I would describe as a Jet plane small with no windows except for the cockpit and had only one flashing red light. It was hovering in the sky not a helicopter just at a standstil. I watched the plane for over 30 minutes to see it go slowly backwards once or twice - I didnt know planes could go backwards?
The from the opposite direction to the plane passing across what is usually the landing flight path came a fire ball. My first reaction was it was a plane on fire or a meteor. It was not decending but flying straight across speed of a plane. Approx 30 mins later the jet plane red light stopped flashing and became just a constant red light and the jet flew away.
10 mins after that landing passanger planes returned as normal.
SO what is this orange fireball in the sky - Who was in the jet plane - they must have known this was coming and sent something to monitor it.
