According to BBC radio over 6,000 flights a day need to be moved through UK airspace safely and as quickly as possible each day. Richard Deakin, of Nats, formerly National Air Traffic Services Limited, is responsible for making sure this happens.

When asked by the BBC radio Today programme's Simon Jack whether his staff encounter unidentified flying objects, he said that occasionally there are objects "that don't conform to normal traffic patterns... typically around one a month".
